The President Madison, January 1823

Waterford, Jan. 5…The President Madison, Capt. Stuart, from St. Michael’s for Liverpool was dismasted off Tramore on the morning of the third, and was afterwards towed by boats from the shore and the preventative service, to about two miles south of Brownstown Head, the eastern point of Tramore Bay. The crew and the boats, all left the wreck on the evening of the 4th, letting go both anchors. Captain Stuart and his crew went into Dunmore East. This morning Capt. Hunt, pilot-master, sent a party with Capt. Stuart and his crew, in search of the wreck and it was expected that the search would be effectual.[1]
