Eliza, 6 December 1809

Master Tromp, from Newfoundland to Waterford lost near Tramore only two of the crew saved.
On Wednesday night last, the brig Eliza of Exeter, Captain Tromp, laden with fish &c. from St Johns Newfoundland, was totally wrecked on the Islands of Kane to the westward of Tramore Bay. The crew consisted of the captain and four hands, of which the captain and two men were lost. The remaining two ascended the top mast of the vessel, which fortunately was some feet above the surface, and the vessel giving a heel, they miraculously, attained an adjoining rock and were saved. The same night a small sloop from Tralee, [Jane] laden with kelp was driven into Tramore bay and went to pieces. The crew were saved.[1]
